Mario vs Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars is Cross-Buy

Although it has been somewhat overlooked in recent years, the Mario vs. Donkey Kong hasĀ become somewhat of a flagship series for the eShop, and it’s about to break new ground (for Nintendo at least)Ā –Ā theĀ latest title will be the first (well, second in Europe) cross-buy eShop title.

Cross buy is a already a familiar concept for playstation owners, butĀ the featureĀ has been somewhat absent across the Wii U and 3DS, but that seems to be changing. Over on Sony’s platforms,Ā purchase of a game on PS3, PS4 or PS Vita often unlocks it for use on all three systems, and Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars will follow a similar pattern. However, for once Nintendo’s lack of an accounts based system for download games is a plus, because rather than automatically unlocking the game, Nintendo plan to provide a download code to purchasers. Expect to see many of these on eBay in the near future…

As for the game itself, Tipping Stars follows the template laid out by its predecessors well – once again, the aim is to guide mini toys to the exit via simple touch controls. Also returning is the level editor which has got a significant upgrade – while you can still share your creations online,Ā players of your levels can now rate them by tipping you with stars. I see what you’re doing there Nintendo…

Stars can be used to buy new parts for levels, with the idea being that the most creative designers will get more parts to use, hence enabling them to create better levels. Sounds a bit like the richĀ will get richer then, but there you go.

Tipping Stars is out on the 5th March in North America and 20th March in Europe, exclusively on the eShop.

Pokemon Shuffle is Free to Play and Out in February

Free to play doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere any time soon, and NintendoĀ will be getting in on that action with a brand new Pokemon game – Pokemon Shuffle. In true free to play style, the new game is another of those puzzle-shifting-match-three things, and is not dissimilar from the previous Pokemon Link/Trozei games.

The free to play elements will be familiar to anyone who owns a smartphone – you use up a heart each time a stage is tackled, and regenerate hearts as time passes, butĀ this process can be sped up if you part with some card hold cash. Nintendo previously experimented with the free to play model when it released Steel Diver sub wars, but this seems to be a much more confident effort with more potential for wide appeal.

Pokemon Shuffle will be out in February for 3DS, and naturally will be free to download. Will you be picking up a copy?

Check out our full experience from the event after the break!

I am a huge Nintendo fan, hence why NintyBuzz exists. I especially love all things Zelda and Metroid. NintyBuzz was started by me back in the Summer of 2014, it started out mainly as a hobby, though the site has gradually grown, and I hope it grows for many years to come!
