No Plans to bring Virtual Console Brand to Switch

Many gamers have been adamantly awaiting news that Virtual Console would be coming to the Nintendo Switch. For those who do not know, Virtual Console is a line of titles released on the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS which were essentially emulations of Nintendo’s retro catalogue, ranging from the NES to the N64.

Unfortunately, according to a Nintendo representative, we may not be seeing Virtual Console on the Switch at all… at least not in its current form. When asked by Kotaku regarding Virtual Console and the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo rep said the following:

There are currently no plans to bring classic games together under the Virtual Console banner as has been done on other Nintendo systems.

At first, it may seem like there is no hope for Virtual Console fans, however, from the wording, it may not look so dull after all. It seems that Nintendo may just want to distance themselves from the Virtual Console brand for the Nintendo Switch, after all, it was announced today that Nintendo Switch Online member will have access to an expanding catalogue of NES games. Who knows!

I am a huge Nintendo fan, hence why NintyBuzz exists. I especially love all things Zelda and Metroid. NintyBuzz was started by me back in the Summer of 2014, it started out mainly as a hobby, though the site has gradually grown, and I hope it grows for many years to come!

European Download 24/08/17 – Pokémon Discounts, Pokkén Demo and More

The eShop is gearing up for a lot of Pokémon next month, with sizeable discounts on the 3DS Virtual Console releases of Red, Blue and Yellow; and the Pokkén Tournament DX demo on Switch that dropped today. The Game Boy titles drop 36% percent to £5.75 / €6.39 granted you have a Nintendo Account linked, otherwise the discount’s a tad smaller. The Pokkén demo lets you play as Pikachu, Charizard and Empoleon and supports local multiplayer (on a single screen). Although it can only be played 15 times, you can get around this by deleting and redownloading it unlike restricted use 3DS demos.

This week another retail game comes out in the form of Minecraft: Story Mode – The Complete Adventure. ‘Metroidvania’ indie hit forma.8 debuts on switch at £8.99 / €9.99 and it’s Wii U counterpart has also dropped to that price. On another Wii U note, Final Soldier (VC PC Engine) and Soldier Blade (VC TurboGrafx-16) have released at £6.29 / €6.99 and £5.39 / €5.99 respectively.

And finally, Piczle Lines DX releases at £13.99 / €14.99 and another member of the ACA NEOGEO range – PUZZLED – comes at the standard price of £6.29 / €6.99. While four sets of DLC for RPG Maker Fes come at £0.89 / €0.99 a piece. And in case you forgot, there’s another Testpunch for ARMS starting tomorrow (16:00 GMT) and ending on Sunday (21:00 GMT) so don’t forget to download it if you’re interested!

RUMOUR – GameCube Virtual Console Coming Soon

The Virtual Console has essentially been a staple for Nintendo consoles since it launched for the Nintendo Wii. Though the launch was delayed for the 3DS and Wii U, we knew it was coming and had some information beforehand. With the Nintendo Switch however, we currently have no idea what’s happening with the Virtual Console other than subscribers of the Nintendo Switch Online service will get updated VC games for free.

Yesterday, it seems that Twitter user and Source Gaming editor NantenJex found some listings on Nintendo’s UK site for a handful of GameCube titles. True, it is highly possible that these listings are old entries, the website did exist around the GameCube era, though I find it rather interesting that the fact that none of the listings seem to have solid details. Could this possibly mean the Nintendo Switch Virtual Console will launch with GameCube titles?

Either way, don’t give your hopes up just yet, but hopefully Nintendo will reveal their Nintendo Switch Virtual Console plans very soon.
