REVIEW – Filament

A ship floats silently across the starry sky, the planet beneath swathed in an aura of pinks and blues… or would that be green? Aboard the vessel, our hero arrives, welcome to the mighty Alabaster of Filament Corp design.

Our story isn’t of action, nor of horrific sights, instead, it’s full of hope and puzzling lights. Does this game of Filament light up that bulb of the brain, or does it remain darkened, making this journey in vain? Find out in our review, after the break!

Cadence of Hyrule: Symphony of the Mask Review

Cadence of Hyrule already made waves for being a totally unexpected crossover between one of Nintendo’s biggest franchises and an indie darling, so it came as a surprise to many of us that even more was planned for the pipeline. The announcement of a season pass came out of nowhere, with a slew of new content being added to the game. The first parts of the pack added new characters and remixed music, but the really exciting bit was the final piece of the expansion, an entirely new story mode introducing a Skull Kid into the game. With a new play style in hand, does Symphony of the Mask live up to the expectations already set by the base game, or does it fall tone death to the melody?

REVIEW – Super Mario 3D All-Stars

2020 marks thirty-five years since Super Mario Bros. first launched on the Nintendo Entertainment System, and the plumber has featured in many different games ever since. 1996 saw the series’ revolutionary transition into the 3D world with Super Mario 64, followed by various other 3D ventures. As part of this year’s celebrations, Nintendo have launched this ‘star-studded’ compilation, showcasing the best Mario’s 3D world has on offer.

Jump through paintings and collect Power Stars in Super Mario 64, clean up some graffiti while basking in the sun in Super Mario Sunshine, and soar through the stars and defy gravity in Super Mario Galaxy. Does Super Mario 3D All-Stars reach for the gas-filled interstellar spheres, or is it starting to show its age? Find out in our review, after the break!

Things Get Spooky in Animal Crossing: New Horizons Halloween Update

Autumn, the leaves begins to fall, the weather gets chilly, and the next free Animal Crossing: New Horizons update is just around the corner, this time bringing some ghoulish tricks and treats to your island paradise.

Starting from the 30th September, villagers will be able to purchase pumpkin seeds from Leif year-round (or Nook’s Cranny during October), allowing them to grow the festive squash to use in spooky DIY recipes. Throughout the month, Nook’s Cranny will also be selling candy, the Able Sisters will have Halloween costumes ready to order, and the Town Hall will even have frightening make up to exchange for Nook Miles.

When it comes to the big day on the 31st October after 5pm, your fellow residents will gather round the plaza to partake in the Halloween festivities. A rather mysterious fellow, Jack, will also be visiting to provide special in-game rewards in exchange for the cavity inducing candy… be sure to keep some aside for your neighbours though, they may have some brand new reactions to teach.

In addition to the Halloween goodies, this new update will also introduce a favourites list to the Dream Suite as well as an ability to perform reactions from the NookLink app service.

Check out the press release and gallery after the break!

NintyBeats – Super Mario 35th Anniversary Edition

Mario, he’s had his fair share of adventures over the past thirty-five years over hundreds of various games. Today, we will be celebrating Mario’s legacy by talking about some of my favourite pieces of music from the Mushroom Kingdom, some of which feature in the recently released Super Mario 3D All-Stars. Some of the following you could probably see coming, but there are also several tracks which may pose a bit of a curve-ball.

Once you’ve reached the end of the feature, there will also be a chance to win a physical copy of Super Mario 3D All-Stars or £25 Nintendo eShop credit, so be sure to enter that right away. Without further ado, join us in our celebration, after the break!
