FAN CONCEPT: Metroid Prime 4 – Desolation

Welcome to the second Fan Concept instalment where we write about a game concept created by us or you, the readers. Today’s concept gives hope that eventually there will be a new instalment in the Metroid Prime games, making the trilogy a quadrilogy. Of course, none of the following are official details from an existing games and all images are either from previous games in the franchise or fan art.

Hyrule Warriors Update Goes Live On Monday

A week ago it was announced that Hyrule Warriors will be receiving a new update to fix some pesky bugs and to add a brand new mode. Earlier today Tecmo-Koei revealed, via the Hyrule Warriors website, that the update goes live on Monday [1st September 2014], they also reveal the details of the update.

Mario Kart 8 AOC Packs Official Announcement Plus Merceds Update Goes Live

Yesterday we treated you all to news about the Nintendo UK store listing some special Mario Kart 8 DLC packs for preorder, adding new course, characters and vehicles. Well, today Nintendo have officially announced the wonderful news via a PR post. As well as going into great detail about the DLC packs, or AOC [Add On Content] as Nintendo are referring them to, they also announced that the big update which allows users to download the free Mercedes Benz DLC pack, improve stability, adds a minimap to the screen and much more has gone live today.

New Courses, More Characters And Even More Karts For Mario Kart 8

Over a week ago we showed you an image of supposedly unused graphics for cups in Mario Kart 8. It turns out that these may not be unused after all, instead they could just be dormant. Earlier today, the Nintendo UK Store listed two Digital Download Packs for Mario Kart 8 to pre-order (Pack 1 – Pack 2). These packs include 6 new characters, 8 new vehicles and 16 new courses! What is very interesting, is the fact that only 3 characters are from the Mario Universe, the other three are special cross-over guests from two franchises.

Zelda Wii U Open World Unlike Others

The most recent edition of EDGE magazine features a big Nintendo blowout interviewing many big names from the company such as Shigeru Miyamoto and Eiji Aonuma. While on the topic of open worlds in video games, Aonuma took this as a chance to tease some more about the open world in the next Legend of Zelda game for Wii U. We already know that the world is going to be very vast, in fact it has been mentioned before that it will be comparable to the vastness of Kyoto, Japan. Here’s what he had to say…

Since we’re talking about open worlds, let’s state upfront that we don’t plan to have an open world in the same way other companies have been doing in recent years.

Mario Kart 8 Takes A Pit Stop Late Tonight For Maintenance

If you have a gander at the Nintendo Network Status page, you would notice that there will be some planned downtime for online services on Mario Kart 8 due to maintenance tonight and early tomorrow morning. So, if you are a night bird or an early bird and are hoping for some online Mario Kart fun, then unfortunately you will have to detour your time onto offline play momentarily. It is likely that this downtime is to prepare Mario Kart 8 for its big update, which is scheduled to be released tomorrow (27th August 2014). The update aims to improve stability, allow users to download the Mercedes Benz DLC and much more!

Here’s the lowdown for various timezones for your convenience:

  • Europe : 8.50AM to 10AM
  • UK : 7.50AM to 9AM
  • USA (East Coast) : 2.50AM to 4AM
  • USA (West Coast) : 1.50PM to 1AM (Tuesday > Wednesday)

RUMOUR – Leaked Smash Characters Surface

In just under a month, Smash Bros. will see itself for the first time on a handheld console, the Nintendo 3DS, on Japanese shores. It has been quite a while since we have had any character announcements, the latest one was way back in the middle of July where newcomers, Lucina and Robin, and veteran, Captain Falcon, were announced in a special live trailer. We could soon see a few more character announcements as, recently, some footage containing a few characters not yet seen have been ‘leaked’ onto YouTube. Check out the video after the break!
