The music of Nintendo games make them truly remarkable and memorable. To show our love of the music, every Friday we share a selection of tracks from various Nintendo titles, new and old.

This week, we present music from two titles with worthy candidates in the Smash Ballot. Well, probably only one, but only because you’re wrong! Then, a piece from a certain futuristic SNES racer finishes off our trio of Ninty tracks.

With the Smash Ballot ending tomorrow, I thought I should include a piece from one of the frontrunners. Shantae has placed in various fan polls, so it’s not so unlikely she’ll make her way to Smash in the near future. This is the title theme from her first outing on Game Boy Colour. I admittedly haven’t played the game, but I’m certainly planning to, not least because of its soundtrack!

Speaking of the Smash Ballot, where’s the support for AiAi from Super Monkey Ball?! Apparently nowhere, as he doesn’t even rank in fan polls. Maybe I’m just crazy, but I think playing as a monkey in a ball would be so ridiculous it would be amazing. This piece is the alternate menu music from the original GCN version, which unlocks when you do… something. What? You look it up, I can’t remember. It’s my favourite tune from the game; it sounds like it’s cheering you on for making progress!

In the eternal battle between this piece and Mute City, I take the side of Big Blue. Mute City’s music feels a little boring in comparison to Big Blue’s more dynamic tune. This track makes this, er, track a joy to race on, until you fall of the edge and explode. Then you get what you deserve. DEAD SILENCE.

So that wraps up another week’s NintyBeats! I hope you enjoyed the choices this time.

If you would like to have a certain piece featured next week, please post it in the comments!
