REVIEW – Kao the Kangaroo

Back when 3D platformers were all the rage, Kao the Kangaroo saw its debut in the year 2000 on both PC and Dreamcast. Players saw Kao journey through levels with his springy jump and signature punching techniques to beat up enemies. Unfortunately, the game received a mixed reception overall and we haven’t seen a new Kao the Kangaroo game since 2005. Originally announced on its 20th anniversary, Kao the Kangaroo finally returns to our living rooms. Have the years been kind to our Kangaroo friend, or is this game a total Knockout?

REVIEW – Dynamite Headdy (Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack)

Following on from their success with Gunstar Heroes, Treasure liberally poured their creativity into Dynamite Headdy. This is a side-scrolling 2D platformer following a puppet named Headdy on his quest to stop an evil puppet king taking over the world. His only weapon? You guessed it, his head. In an already crowded market, does Dynamite Headdy rise head and shoulders above the rest, or does it fall short?

REVIEW – Save Me Mr Tako: Definitive Edition

Save Me Mr Tako: Definitive Edition has recently re-appeared on the Nintendo eShop. Initially released with some unfavourable reviews back in 2018, the Developer Christophe Galati set out to work hard on the feedback and “fix” the game. Galati then went his separate ways with the original Publisher and has now re-launched the Definitive Edition, published by Limited Run Games.

This game lands itself in a competitive sea of platforming indie titles on the Nintendo Switch and those seeking a quality platformer may easily miss this title. With the re-launch, is it sink or swim for our little Octopus friend Mr Tako?

Yooka-Laylee Gets New Trailer and Release!

Old Rare fans [not saying the fans of Rare are rare] rejoice. The fellows over at Playtonic Games have recently revelled the first proper trailer for their Banjo-Kazooie spiritual successor, Yooka-Laylee. The trailer is packed full of platforming goodness. See Yooka roll! Gaze as Laylee takes flight [or glide]! And tremble at the duo’s almighty flower transformation! You can catch all this and more in the trailer below.

Some of you observant lot may realise that the video mentions that the titular duo will be shipping during Q1 2017, which is unfortunately a few months after the initial planned release [October 2016]. However, Playtonic were nice enough to provide a statement of why the game will be delayed. You can view this statement after the break, along with some brand new screenshots and art!

I am a huge Nintendo fan, hence why NintyBuzz exists. I especially love all things Zelda and Metroid. NintyBuzz was started by me back in the Summer of 2014, it started out mainly as a hobby, though the site has gradually grown, and I hope it grows for many years to come!

Two Tribes’ R Announcement Has aRIVEd!

If you remember back to yesterday, [I know, really long time ago] we covered a teaser trailer the newly reformed Two Tribes released for their upcoming project. In 2015, gamers of all platforms will have the pleasure to try out Two Tribes’ RIVE!

What is RIVE? RIVE is a 2D Shooter/Platformer which Two Tribes describe as “the metal wrecking, robot hacking shooter”. It seems that my speculation of an atmospheric platformer isn’t too far off, it is a platformer to some extent, and from the look of the trailer, it looks like it could be quite atmospheric. Either way, I am very impressed with the amount of work three people [yes, three] have put into the game so far, even if it only has a 50 second trailer, so I am eagerly looking forward to hear more information as it develops. Also, for those of you who are already wanting to get their hands on RIVE, Two Tribes are bringing a playable demo to Gamescom in Germany next month, so be sure to attend that if you get the chance! Check out the full announcement here!

What so you think of the announcement? Were you expecting something different to come from Two Tribes? Tell us what you think in the comments!
