Throwback Review – Super Mario 3D Land

I’m back… again! Apologies for my absence, I was assigned to a job to do over the past week (someone’s been busy). Anywho, Our recent review of the charming Miitopia the other week marked NintyBuzz’s 50th review since we went live just over three years ago.

As a little celebration of sorts, I decided to search for my first ever game review I wrote (which was documented), and what I found was a review for Super Mario 3D Land which I wrote for a double page spread as part of my Media Studies assignment at college. I later submitted it as part of the YouView feature back in the 3DS Buzz days.

This review is completely unedited (aside from the odd typo correction and addition of screenshots) from when I was about 15 or 16. Please note that these were my views at the time (in 2012), but the game has still pretty much lived up to them up to this very day.

Check it out after the break!

I am a huge Nintendo fan, hence why NintyBuzz exists. I especially love all things Zelda and Metroid. NintyBuzz was started by me back in the Summer of 2014, it started out mainly as a hobby, though the site has gradually grown, and I hope it grows for many years to come!

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Revealed

A very unlikely crossover (unless you’ve been following certain rumours) was revealed earlier at Ubisoft’s E3 Conference, exclusively for Nintendo Switch. The new tactical adventure, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle has been officially announced, and will be releasing in the West on the 29th August 2017 (that’s a day before my 22nd birthday y’all).

The game, which has been in the works for three years, follows a new adventure where Rabbids have somehow found a way to invade a new universe, specifically the Mushroom Kingdom. Unfortunately some of the Rabbids have gone bad (or rabid), so it is up to Mario to team up with other Rabbids to put an end to this chaos.

The game is primarily a turn based tactical RPG (similar to Fire Emblem), but will also include some exploration segments too. Each characters will have their own abilities, there are support abilities too, and you also have the ability to destroy cover if you are a bit of a daredevil! Finally, it was also announced by the man himself that Grant Kirkhope was involved with creating the music for the title.

Check out the announcement videos, screenshots, and art after the break!

GameSpot E3 Show to Host Three Nintendo Games

As we all know by now (probably) Nintendo will be hosting a pre-recorded presentation, followed by three days of Nintendo Treehouse Live at E3 this week. Popular gaming news outlets will be covering E3 news along with streaming their own E3 shows.

One outlet that has grabbed the attention of Nintendo fans in particular is GameSpot, as they have a three brief segments in their E3 schedule between Tuesday and Thursday which are dedicated to a specific Nintendo game.

it is currently unclear whether these games have already been announced, or if they are games which will be revealed during Nintendo’s Spotlight event. Either way, it’s worth checking out.

The first segment is on Tuesday at 11am PT, then on Wednesday at 1pm PT, and finally on Thursday at 11am PT again.

REVIEW – Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Nearly three years ago, Mario zoomed back onto the track, as well as the water, air, walls, and ceilings, in Mario Kart 8 for Nintendo Wii U. The title thrilled fans in 2014, albeit a generally poor battle mode experience, especially when 16 new tracks and a 200cc mode was added as DLC.

Come 2017, Mario is back with the same set of wheels for the Nintendo Switch, this time with some shiny new enhancements. Will Mario Kart 8 Deluxe take home the gold, or will it end up being a burnout? Find out in our review, after the break!

REVIEW – Mario Sports Superstars

Warm weather is finally coming, which is the perfect time for Mario and Co. to get athletic and play some sports outdoors. Mario Sports Superstars however doesn’t focus on one sport, rather five different sports. Kick the ball around in Football, hit a home run in Baseball, get a rally going in Tennis, score a hole in one in Golf, and race your trusty steeds in Horse Racing.

Does Mario Sports Superstars take home the gold trophy, or is it worse than a doping controversy? Find out in our review, after the break!

The NintyBuzz Awards 2016 – The Results

My, my, my, what an unfortunate couple weeks it has been. First the Baudelaires have been chased down by an untalented fiend, a narcissistic Tango Orange addict is running the United States, and I may have quite possibly failed my Geography exam. But let us move on from the tragic, and onto the triumphant. Yes, it is finally time to announce the results of the NintyBuzz Awards 2016!

The community has voted, and the results are in. Find out which games have won NintyBuzz Awards… after the break!
