NintyBeats – July’s Sizzling Summer Soirée

The music of Nintendo games make them truly remarkable and memorable. To show our love of the music, every Friday we share a selection of tracks from various Nintendo titles, new and old.

If you’ve been in England recently, you’ll probably know that it’s been, as Ruby Rhod would put it, hot hot HOT! Some places haven’t even had rain since May (Please note… a day after I wrote this intro, we got torrential rain). In this edition of NintyBeats, we’ll be showcasing some Nintendo music which will cool your heart in this scorching sun… or at least make it easier to imagine you’re somewhere nicer.

Check out our refreshing selection after the break!

Off screen Super Smash Bros. Ultimate gameplay

Sunday just gone, I was able to attend the Nintendo UK VS Live event. Not only were there some fun tournaments to compete in and to watch, but there were also a bunch of upcoming Switch games to play too, including Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

I was able to record some off screen footage of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, both videos can be viewed below. The first is from the Spirit Train stage, originally from the 3DS iteration, and the second is from Green Hill Zone.

Nintendo Labo goes all terrain in brand new Vehicle Kits

Back in April, Nintendo Labo took the world by storm in unique new ways, with cardboard. The kits allowed you to create a ranged of different ToyCons and play with them in various ways by using the Nintendo Switch hardware and software. Labo also came with some really cool creation tools so you could programme your own ToyCon too. We absolutely loved Nintendo Labo, don’t believe us? Check out our review!

If you are starting to feel bored with all the ToyCon you’ve built already, then you’re in luck as Nintendo Labo is going all terrain in the newly announced Vehicle Kit. This kit allows you to create ToyCons like a Car, a Submarine, a Plane, a Pedal, two Keys and more, you can also seem to change your vehicle on the fly in one huge world. Best of all, there isn’t long to wait as the kit releases on the 14th September 2017… in just over a month!

Playground Mode returns to Fortnite in 1st Birthday update

Last month, Epic Games included a brand new limited time mode (or LTM) called Playground Mode. This peaceful mode allowed players to roam around the world freely, either on their own or in a squad, and build to their hearts content. It’s perfect for practicing for Battle Royale, or if you just want to screw about with your friends. The mode returns tomorrow (25th July 2018) for a limited time with brand new features, such as more supply drops, lowered respawn time, in-game team switching, and more.

That’s not all as today marks Fortnite’s 1st Birthday! To celebrate, Epic have included some exclusive birthday swag. Each Birthday challenge which you complete will unlock a new piece of Birthday gear. You can also find slices of Birthday cake around the world which will increase both your health and shield by 5 points. Finally, there have also been a few cosmetic changes added to the battle bus and supply drops.

Check out the full patch notes from the 5.10 update, which is live now, right after the break!

REVIEW – Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Nintendo Switch)

You just have to love Captain Toad. He started his own little brigade in Super Mario Galaxy to assist in the retrieval of power stars, you could get a brief glimpse of how he retrieves said stars in the bonus levels of Super Mario 3D World, and then he had his very own adventure in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for the Wii U. Now it’s time to relive that adventure on the go for Nintendo Switch (as well as 3DS).

Is Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for Nintendo Switch as cute as a Toad in a box, or is it a rather undelightful adventure? Found out in our review after the break!

Master Cycle Zero races onto Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Nintendo literally save me of a night of terror after staying up until 2am watching the Horror Channel. How? With a brand new update available now for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch, bringing the software version to 1.6.0.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is seemingly trying to compete with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s three Links as this free update adds the Breath of the Wild version of Link to the roster. One more Link, and it’ll be on par with the upcoming Smash game. Note that you now choose which Link you want to play as similarly to the colouredShy Guys or the gender of the Villager. The update also adds new car parts too, they are the Master Cycle Zero, Ancient Tyres, and the Paraglider.

Check out the new trailer below!
