PuyoGB Presents… Collision 2020

Many would probably tilt their head at the notion of puzzle games being involved in competitive eSports, but when the scene is filled with shooters and sports games, you can’t help but wonder if things are starting to feel a bit stale. Since PuyoGB was conceived after the the international success of Puyo Puyo Tetris in 2017, the group has lead the the UK’s community voice in bringing people together with the popular puzzling franchise. PuyoGB aims to work alongside tournament organisers, conventions, and interested sponsors to help bring Puyo Puyo and other similar games into the eSports scene.

Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, PuyoGB has struggled as offline events are not allowed for the foreseeable future. Despite this, the group will be holding a completely online puzzle game convention: Collision!

From the 8th to 16th August, Collision will hold a variety of tournaments and side-events to residents of the United Kingdom and Ireland in collaboration with Nintendo Players UK. There will be four main tournaments, as well as a week of side-events, some of which also have prizes up for grabs… oh, you may also see myself helping out with some of the events too!

If you’re interested in competing, then be sure to hop on over to their announcement page for all the details.

If you’d like to know more info about PuyoGB themselves, then be sure to check out their website too!

I am a huge Nintendo fan, hence why NintyBuzz exists. I especially love all things Zelda and Metroid. NintyBuzz was started by me back in the Summer of 2014, it started out mainly as a hobby, though the site has gradually grown, and I hope it grows for many years to come!

E3 2018 – Super Smash Bros. Invitational and Splatoon 2 World Championship Winners Crowned

Not only did Nintendo host the E3 Direct and Treehouse Live Day One yesterday, but they also hosted the finale of two prestigious tournaments: the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Invitationals and the Splatoon 2 World Championships.

It was a messy fight, but the squid squad all the way from Japan, GG BoyZ, inked their way to the top in the Splatoon 2 World Championships.

Playing as Mario, he travelled all the way from Chilie, and returned from the 2014 invitational to defend his smashing title, ZeRo claimed all the glory in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate invitational!

Congratulations to both GG BoyZ and ZeRo on some riveting matches last night. If you’re like me, and didn’t catch the tournament live, you can view the entire stream below (skip to 4:24:00 if it doesn’t start from there automatically)!

Prepare for a Competitive Filled Easter Weekend

It’s nearly Easter time, but this year, there will be a little more competition than your usual Easter egg hunt. This weekend there are two fantastic events that are being held by Nintendo to get you into the competitive spirit.

Starting from Friday, 30th March 2018, Nintendo will be hosting the Splatoon European Championships over at the Polymanga event in Switzerland. Professional squid squads from around Europe will be battling it out in the semi-finals to really put their tenta-skills to the test in the finals on Saturday, 31st March. The team who succeeds in the finals will then be invited to compete in the Splatoon 2 World Championship at E3!

That’s not all, Pearl and Marina will make an electronic appearance to perform in the Off the Hook concert, accompanied by a live band! Can’t afford the air fair all the way to Switzerland, let alone a ticket for the event? Never fear, Nintendo will be streaming all the action live on their Twitch and YouTube channels.

Want to get in on some competitive action of your own? Whether your an ARMS veteran who have yet to delve into the ring (remember, it’s still 33% off in the spring sale), why not download the ARMS Global Test Punch? Starting Saturday, 31st March 2018 until Monday 2nd April, Nintendo will be holding another special demo event for ARMS. So whether you want a taste of the stretchy action, or want some fresh competition, feel free to give it a whirl… or would that be punch?

Looking like it will be a competitive Easter after all!

Stay Off the Hook and Watch the Splatoon European Championships

Europe’s ultimate test to find the best Inkling squad is nearly here. On the 31st March 2018, Polymanga in Switzerland will be hosting the Splatoon European Championships 2018!

16 legendary teams from around Europe will enter the semi-finals on the 30th and 31st March, with only four entering the finals on the 31st to take home the glory. These teams include Team Mako and 4D from the UK, NinPlayers from Italy, and, of course, Splat Tim from Russia.

That’s not all! As a pre-final event, Inkopolis’ pop-idol duo, Pearl and Marina, will be performing in virtual form, accompanied by a live band, in the Off the Hook concert.

Check out the full press release after the break with info on where you can watch the events unfold live!

Just extended sign up deadline to Friday 1st September 2017!

Splatoon 2 just got released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, and already it’s getting kraken reviews, especially from those awesome guys from NintyBuzz! It’s also been a whole year (and a couple days) since we started the first [the 3DS Buzz one was a pilot] ever Summer Splatathon Supreme Tournament. Wouldn’t you say now would be a good time to have another Splatathon?

Yup, that’s right! The Summer Splatathon is back for 2017, but this time we’ll be competing on Splatoon 2 for the Nintendo Switch. Registration is open now, just comment below or, preferably, reply to this thread (click here). That’s not all. You can also win £50 of eShop credit (or your country’s equivalent) if you’re the top squid, kid!

Check out the details after the break!

TOURNEY – Summer Splat-a-thon Supreme 2016

Can you believe it, Summer is nearly over. We still can’t get over The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild from E3, but pretty soon we will have to return to normality, back to school, back to baggy trousers, that sort of thing. Luckily, we have one very last-minute organised trick up our sleeve to end Summer with a bang!

To top off the peak of Summer, we’d thought to host a new Splatoon tournament, the NintyBuzz Summer Splat-a-thon Supreme! We have actually already hosted this tournament before, back on 3DS Buzz Forums, before the big merge, last year. In the end, the member Pepe claimed victory and is chuffed with his Lucina Amiibo to top off his Fire Emblem series.

Check out all the info for this year after the break!

TOURNEY – Summer Splat-athon Supreme

What’s this? Yet another tournament? It seems like August is the month of tourneys, and what’s better than to compete in style and ink with Splatoon. A couple months ago, I announced this tournament (which isn’t technically a NintyBuzz one) but now I can officially announce when the tourney will start.

I plan to start the tournament on Wednesday, 12th August 2015. Please note that this is the start date, different battles may take place on different days up to the end of August. I can also announce that the winner of the tournament will also receive a free Amiibo of their choice as well as boasting rights. The deadline to register for the tournament will be Friday 7th August 2015 at 6pm BST.

Please click here to sign up for the tournament (you will need to create a free account at 3DS Buzz first).

Happy Splatting!
