E3 2018 – Super Smash Bros. Invitational and Splatoon 2 World Championship Winners Crowned

Not only did Nintendo host the E3 Direct and Treehouse Live Day One yesterday, but they also hosted the finale of two prestigious tournaments: the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Invitationals and the Splatoon 2 World Championships.

It was a messy fight, but the squid squad all the way from Japan, GG BoyZ, inked their way to the top in the Splatoon 2 World Championships.

Playing as Mario, he travelled all the way from Chilie, and returned from the 2014 invitational to defend his smashing title, ZeRo claimed all the glory in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate invitational!

Congratulations to both GG BoyZ and ZeRo on some riveting matches last night. If you’re like me, and didn’t catch the tournament live, you can view the entire stream below (skip to 4:24:00 if it doesn’t start from there automatically)!

E3 2018 – Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion Launching Tomorrow, New Amiibo, and Updates

A nice surprise announcement was made during the Splatoon 2 World Championship Finals last night, the long awaited paid DLC for Splatoon 2, Octo Expansion, is launching tomorrow. That’s right, tomorrow morning (this evening for our US visitors) you can purchase/download the brand new single player experience for Splatoon 2!  Explore the depths of the underground facilities over 80 brand new challenging missions as an Octoling agent.

That’s not all that was announced. Later in the year, Nintendo will be releasing three brand new Amiibo based off the expansion. These are Octoling Boy, Octoling Girld, and Octoling Octoform! No word yet on what features these will unlock, though it’s probably safe to assume that they will have similar usability as the Inkling Amiibo.

Finally, Splatoon 2 producer, Hisashi Nogami, announced that free updates for Splatoon 2 will be extended by another six months until December. Expect brand new gear, weapons, and stages to drop throughout the rest of the year!

What are your thoughts on these announcements? What do you think of E3 2018 so far? Tell us in the comments below!

The video presentation will be directly followed by three full days of Nintendo Treehouse: Live. This is the chance to get a closer looks at games from the video presentation, along with some commentary by the Nintendo Treehouse and game developers. If it’s anything like previous years, we may receive even more reveals.

The 12th June will also see the grand finales of not only the Splatoon 2 World Championships, but also the Super Smash Bros. Invitational, back to back. More details of specific timings will follow.

You can catch most, if not all, these events on our E3 2018 Hub, or Nintendo’s Official E3 Microsite.

Splatoon 2 v3.0 Update Out Now

The next flagship update for Splatoon 2 is ready to download right now to keep the shooter fresh as ever.

First of all, the new update adds the brand new X Rank. Feelin’ like you’re already the cream of the shoal with a rank of S+10? Then welcome to X Rank. The best and freshest players will compete to raise their X Power levels. Additionally, once a month, the top 500 X Rank players will be featured on the SplatNet2 service on the Nintendo Switch Online app… yup that’s still a thing!

The update also comes jam packed with over 100 new pieces of gear. Both new, and returning fashion trends from the original Splatoon will be featured. Why not mix and match new an old to create an even fresher trend… or a complete fashion faux pas. Speaking of returning goodies, it has been rumoured that singing sensation from the famous duo, Callie, has been hanging out in Tentakeel Outpost, but only for the freshest inklings. Want some fresh tunes? Then you’ll be happy to hear that Chirpy Chip have you covered with two brand new tracks!

Prepare for a Competitive Filled Easter Weekend

It’s nearly Easter time, but this year, there will be a little more competition than your usual Easter egg hunt. This weekend there are two fantastic events that are being held by Nintendo to get you into the competitive spirit.

Starting from Friday, 30th March 2018, Nintendo will be hosting the Splatoon European Championships over at the Polymanga event in Switzerland. Professional squid squads from around Europe will be battling it out in the semi-finals to really put their tenta-skills to the test in the finals on Saturday, 31st March. The team who succeeds in the finals will then be invited to compete in the Splatoon 2 World Championship at E3!

That’s not all, Pearl and Marina will make an electronic appearance to perform in the Off the Hook concert, accompanied by a live band! Can’t afford the air fair all the way to Switzerland, let alone a ticket for the event? Never fear, Nintendo will be streaming all the action live on their Twitch and YouTube channels.

Want to get in on some competitive action of your own? Whether your an ARMS veteran who have yet to delve into the ring (remember, it’s still 33% off in the spring sale), why not download the ARMS Global Test Punch? Starting Saturday, 31st March 2018 until Monday 2nd April, Nintendo will be holding another special demo event for ARMS. So whether you want a taste of the stretchy action, or want some fresh competition, feel free to give it a whirl… or would that be punch?

Looking like it will be a competitive Easter after all!

Nintendo Kicks Off E3 2018 with Splatoon and Smash Bros. World Championships

E3 is quickly approaching and Nintendo have already started to reveal some of their plans for Gamer Christmas. Nintendo will kick off E3 with two highly intense tournaments. The Super Smash Bros. Invitational and the Splatoon 2 World Championships will go live on the 11th and 12th June 2018. If you aren’t at E3, never fear as Nintendo will be streaming the action live on their YouTube and Twitch channels.

The Super Smash Bros. Invitational 2018 will bring a specially invited group of Smash players and pit them against each other on the recently announced Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch. This is likely the first time gameplay will be showcased to the world, so it should definitely be interesting to follow.

The Splatoon 2 World Championships will take the winners from the Splatoon European Championships, as well as winners from a soon to be announced online open tournament (hosted by BattleFly) for the US and Canada. There will also be open tournaments for Austrailia/New Zealand, and Japan. They will then go head to hear for an all out Inkling war at E3.
