It’s six days until Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches for Nintendo Switch, so it’s time for another Countdown to Smash feature. Recently, Nintendo released a trailer for Ultimate which had no music whatsoever. Fans decided to do what fans do best, remix the trailers to include music. The results? Pretty damn good, just about anything will fit with the trailer.

Today, we list our top six remixes of the trailer, in no particular order. Find out what they are after the break!

DK Rap

I thought I was being totally original with this remix, but turns out GameXplain beat me to the jump. All jealousy aside, it’s truly amazing just how well the DK Rap suits the trailer.  There’s just too much coincidence in this song. Anyone notice how Inkling was the first newcomer announced and she appears when the lyrics mention the first member of the DK crew?

Don’t Stop Me Now

I do love a bit of Queen, and Don’t Stop Me Now is definitely a song that fits the theming of Smash. It’s great to pump you up for battle, no-one is gonna stop me claiming victory… if only this were an official track in the game.

Happy Together

This one may be a little trip down memory lane… or at least it is for the ears. If you hadn’t noticed, this song was actually used in one of the commercials for the original Super Smash Bros. game on N64. Somehow I don’t think any of the characters will be happy together after the look of things!

Cowboy Bebop

I’m finding it difficult to get into Cowboy Bebop, but I find the music absolutely jammin’! From the “3, 2, 1” and the twirl of Princess Peach and Zelda, to the pitter patter of Inkling’s weapon and the reflection of the Smash logo, everything from this anime’s opening seems to fit into place. 

History Maker

Now for a theme from an anime I binged and fangirled over in an entire Saturday, Yurin on Ice! What’s with the bizarre appropriateness of anime themes in Smash? Most of the timing works so well, especially when the narrator introduces the game right after “we were born to make history”. I’ll tell you what, Ultimate does look like it will make history after all!

All I want for Christmas is you

With Ultimate launching so close to Christmas, it would be a crime to not include a Christmassy song. Sure Mariah Carey was talking about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate when singing All I want for Christmas is you… it’s certainly all I want for Christmas!

BONUS REMIX – Lifelight

Okay, why no-one thought to whack the official Super Smash Bros. Ultimate theme onto the trailer is beyond me. The song, with the lyrics, is the ultimate representation of what the game is looking like… ultimate!
