The music of Nintendo games make them truly remarkable and memorable. To show our love of the music, every Friday we share a selection of tracks from various Nintendo titles, new and old.

Super Mario Maker is out today. It features “themes” from four Marios. These three were left out. We feel bad for them. This week, we take a look at the poor left out games, and quickly realise why they weren’t included. There’s some music here too. Listen to it. Please.

Super Mario Land was surely an odd addition to the Mario series. The starman music is, for some reason, now the can-can. The enemies are totally different, items behave differently, and it was set in a new land. It introduced Daisy to the series, too. Super Mario Maker doesn’t include it, but as with all three titles here, it’s probably because it’s too unique.

You’re likely listening to the origin of the Song of Storms from Ocarina of Time — they are by the same composer. Like Land, this title is certainly unlike conventional Mario. Mario is a baby, you play as a dinosaur, and the world is a crayon drawing. In today’s industry, I don’t think it would be called a sequel to a game so different.

This is one of the most beautiful pieces from Mario, and it’s a shame it isn’t in Super Mario Maker. It is truimphunt and calm, and a perfect way to end this week’s NintyBeats. Happy building!

So that wraps up another week’s NintyBeats! I hope you enjoyed the choices this time.

If you would like to have a certain piece featured next week, please post it in the comments!
