The music of Nintendo games make them truly remarkable and memorable. To show our love of the music, every Friday we share a selection of tracks from various Nintendo titles, new and old.

The common thread through this week’s NintyBeats is a certain enigmatic quality. Whether it be invoking a curious village, a forestial labyrinth or a castle frozen in time, there’s something mysterious about the following tunes…

The title music from the first Professor Layton is chirpy and creepy at the same time. Which, I suppose, fits Layton and Luke’s first DS adventure perfectly. The unsettling goings on in St. Mystere are accompanied by a cast of oddball characters, giving the title a unique feel.

Coming from a game I really need to play through, this beautiful piece from Etrian Odyssey IV stuck with even me, a lowly has-only-played-the-(generous)-demo-of-EOIV type. The combination of such calming music and lush vegetation makes exploring the Woodlands a joy.

This is a remixed arrangement of Hyrule Castle from A Link to the Past. Strictly speaking, anyway. It sounds so different it’s barely recognisable. Atmospheric and memorable, the music of Hyrule Castle fits its mysterious environment perfectly.

So that wraps up another week’s NintyBeats! I hope you enjoyed the choices this time.

If you would like to have a certain piece featured next week, please post it in the comments!
