Video game streaming service Twitch, though only developed since 2011, has become loved by many gamers as it allows them to live stream gameplay or watch other people play games. In July, they hit over 55 million unique monthly viewers just proving how popular it is. About a month ago there were plans for Google to acquire Twitch for a large sum of money, unfortunate for Google however, Amazon recently stepped in and bought the service for a total of $970 million [that’s about Ā£585 just across the pond].

Check out some statements and thoughts about this acquisition after the break!

Amazon

Some of you reading this may think that this is a bad idea as it could completely change some of the mechanics behind the service, however Twitch co-founder Emmet Shear has said this to calm anyone who feels anxious about this move.

We chose Amazon because they believe in our community, they share our values and long-term vision, and they want to help us get there faster, we’re keeping most everything the same: our office, our employees, our brand, and most importantly our independence. But with Amazon’s support we’ll have the resources to bring you an even better Twitch.

Personally, I feel that Amazon is a much better company to buy Twitch than Google because Google have done quite a few things with YouTube which have upset many gamers. These include taking down videos which contain copyrighted material or gain revenue off these videos. Not saying they would do that with Twitch, but they could certainly make changes which would upset its users. Then again, Amazon could decide to make Twitch only available to its Prime subscribers… though this is very unlikely… I hope!

I am a huge Nintendo fan, hence why NintyBuzz exists. I especially love all things Zelda and Metroid. NintyBuzz was started by me back in the Summer of 2014, it started out mainly as a hobby, though the site has gradually grown, and I hope it grows for many years to come!
