At E3, it was announced that the 3DS will be able to "play 3D movies" from a variety of leading studios like Disney and Dreamworks. They showed off several movies playing in 3D on the 3DS, and many eyewitnesses went on to declare the effect better and more convincing than what you get with the glasses at the theatre or on a 3D TV.

Discuss this feature here! I, for one, am wondering about how you'll actually get movies to watch on the 3DS. Will Nintendo distribute them or will there be an online store of some kind?

This is something I'm most excited about!

I can imagine being in the car on a hot day in traffic and just putting a movie oo, the best thing?

It has a little viewing angle, so no eavesdropping! YEY!

I would suspect Nintendo to distribute them on carts, like how the PSP had movies on UMD.

I hope Nintendo distribute 2D movies as well, I really have to watch Inception on the 3DS.
Hopefully they also have an online store, tho this may come latter on.

I kinda like the idea of Movies on Carts, it would be very cool seeing a 3DS box in the store with movie covers on, and maybe special edition movies with extras!

I wish Nintendo open up the SD format and allow you to drag your own media to it, if not, the homebrew team will work on that :D

As for the effect, I have herd the 3DS gives more depth then actual things flying in your face like active shutter glasses, but they give a dark tint to he picture and isn't portable, so its okay!

I actually really hope that movies will not be sold on cartridges. Selling movies in a proprietary physical format hasn't worked in the past. The UMD movies weren't particularly successful, and neither were the GBA ones. I think they're gonna have to be distributed digitally and cheaply, since you'll only be able to watch them on a 3DS. Perhaps there's gonna be an iTunes-like store where you buy and download them for say, $5 each or something? Or, maybe there would be a service where Nintendo would use an ad-hoc network created by every 3DS on the planet in tag mode to distribute the same movie to everyone that has a 3DS?

I'm pretty sure that there will be 2D movies, too, though the focus will probably be on the 3D ones, as the 3DS's ability to play those will separate it from every other video playing device out there.

I agree, but I just love actually owning the product/Movie, if you get me.

Digital movies are just files, it feels weird. But having all you 3DS movies on a shelf would be quite satisfying. :D

    But so are games :p

Its the same story, plus you don't need more then 2 movies while on the go, and like I said, the 3DS is more like a home device, like the iPad.

You don't see people walking around with a iPad in their hands or laptops.

Nintendo cant even get online games right, never mind movies...for now.

Uhhh...I walk around with my laptop.

    No, really. I do.

Nintendo wouldn't be able to sell the movies at attractive prices if they're in physical form, though; cartridges are awfully expensive to manufacture.

Yh, Nintendo would have have 3G without a contract if they want to bring movies in digital format tho, hopefully it doesn't cost like Xbox Live :/

I was just wondering would there be 12s or 15s since Nintendo is aimed at kids, I thought they would have PG as the max. The problem with that is that you can't watch Harry Potter films since they are 12s ( well 12a to be more precise). Loads of good films are usually 12s, probably they will make a system where anything over PG is more expensive but that would probably anger quite alot of people. Anyway I would like it if it was a download instead of cartridge.

I saw the 3D TV(with 3D glasses) in the tech-store and it looked very amazing. If the 3DS will have similar effect... Damn, it will be amazing handheld.

I don't think we will be available for that :(

I doubt there would be age restrictions, after all the 3DS is a hardcore device. My Little brother could play 18 rated games if he wanted, the console doesn't know him.

Thats up to the parents to protect them and filter what they should see.

They better have it. Just imagine it. You are looking at a man and a woman going like hell at it. And since its 3d it would be like you could join in with them! But then you stop when your girlfriend comes in and why you have your mickey out and w**king at the 3ds. I know your excited to get it but that might be a bit too much!

Agree. If parents care what their kids are playing they should control it.

    You don't like Dora's Adventure? :D

Parental controls are useless on consoles anyways since Kids know more about them then most parents anyways.

Plus, you can call Nintendo if you forget the password, and they'll give you a master code.

Yeah, I was the one who actually set up the parental controls on my wii (none) and my mum just has her own built in parental controls (your parents may have these too) and won't buy or let me buy a game that i'm not allowed.

Parents control can be effective if they have more brains than their kids. But the question is do kids need parents control? I am not kid anymore, I am not adult either and would be really dissapointed if I couln't play for example Call of Duty because it's rated 18+. And I think I wouldn't mind if my children would play NFS if they are not 12 yet. Sure porn movies is another talk, but I think parents can also control it.

The thing is, these so called 'adult games' like Call Of Duty aren't even adult games. Kids play them all the time and it doesn't make people violent. Yes there might be the odd one of two people who try to copy games and do violent acts, but thats a small percentage.

Most kids know what and what not to do, I would hope.

Games are about going to this whole new world where there are no boundaries. Nothing to stop you and no consequences. You kill someone? You wont get arrested. Want to join the army, but to young or scared etc? Play COD.

Want to drive 200MPH while doing a Drift and being chased by a Bugatti Veyron? Play NFS!

Games are escape goats from this dull and limited world to a world where plumbers save princes, people fly, you can fight Gods.. just about anything!

If a kid wasn't to watch an 18 rated movie, we will. There is nothing to stop him. Look at the internet, you type anything you want and it's there for your viewing pleasure.

I seriously wish we dont have to buy the Movies,
We can just put in our own movies!!
I hope they have a program to allow to turn ANY movie 3d..
    Now THAT would be epic...
Maybe they can just give out free movies??
    What do you guys think?
