there may be a problem there cuz the ds is 2d and the 3ds is 3d and if pictochat wanted to do something like face chat it will be only with other people with 3ds also ds download play another compatibility problem:confused::confused::rolleyes::mad:

No one said that PictoChat was even going to be a feature in the 3DS. I think they've probably dropped it in exchange for a system-wide chat/whiteboard application that's a bit more elegant and works over the internet. Whatever it is, I doubt that it will be compatible with the DS's PictoChat. Sometimes, companies have to completely ditch the old to make way for the (awesome) new.

There shouldn't be any issues with DS Download Play if Nintendo has found a way to emulate the DS's Wi-Fi module cleanly.

Pictochat was a great concept , but Nintendo destroyed it. If they allowed Wifi for it, the feature would excellent. Personally, I believe Feld0's idea that Nintendo will leave the application behind, and create a better one.

Pictochat is an application for the DS family in which you can type messages, or draw pictures, and send them to other users. The distance at which you can send them though isn't very great, plus it doesn't work over Wifi.

I never used Pictochat lol, I don't rate it highly at all.

I bought a Game console to play games, not to Chat.

Exactly. Pictochat was created when Nintendo focused only on games for their system, not applications. Slowly, they're trying to make their devices still for gaming, but adding special apps as well. Hopefully, we'll see a better replacement that is compatible with Wifi on the 3DS.

They should has Apps like MSN and Skype on the 3DS further down the line, that would be awesome.

Yh, the 3DS has a front facing camera too, so it would be a cool feature.

I think Nintendo will make their own version, like Face Time on the iPhone

maybe, but maybe it will be built into the 3DSWare service? Like Xbox Live has everything bundled together (eg: Zune)

Maybe it will have a Online Hub, or maybe it will have applications like the iPhone on the main menu

I hope the Main menu is not linear like the DS, I hope its action packed and full of customization and settings.

Yeah, I don't want a drab menu, customization would be so much better.

A menu thats colorful and has great animations and interactions.

I also wish the settings are more deeper, I want to do more then recalibrate the screen, I want camera settings, brightness settings, 3D settings, Online settings, WiFi settings, game settings, background settings, Music settings etc

It would be awsome if the 3DS had a MSN so you could do like a webcam chat! if there was msn and facebook app this would be better than a laptop

It wouldn't be better then a laptop tho...it will be slower, more locked down, less customization, no full OS, no HD graphics, no upgrading of components (ie.Ram), no full keyboard, no big screen to watch movies on and brows the web, no Ethernet port, no HDMI port, No user replaceable batteries, no System upgrading (Vista to 7 etc)

    and much more

The 3DS will be great, its small, light, 3D, nice graphics, should have web browsing, music player, movie player

But iit wont replace a Laptop or PC, it will only bring the experience to other places

Come on facetime or whatever on the 3ds would be awesome. It would be cool if you could pictochat whilst playing if you had microphone goodness or something

The distance at which one can use pictochat..
    Why bother?
You can just talk to the guy or wave to him xD

BTW does Psp have Wifi that doesn't require a router?

Pictochat goes up to 250feet, now like I said before, just because you don't like a feature, why dismiss it?

Imagine 2 kids in the house and one is upstairs and ones downstairs and they chat together?

It doesn't go far because its for families. Imagine it connected to a murderer or something and the kid talks to him/her?

Plus were talking about if PictoChat is Wi-FI enabled, thus no bonds or tethering.

Pictochat is the name of a program which allows you to talk to people, it has nothing to do with the distance, thats juts limitations.

if they get rid of pictochat i will be angry!!! i love making movies and playing games on it etc. etc. PLUS if you look in the little ds guide(ad least the ds lite guide i don't know how the other ones work) it tells you it isn't just for chatting there is a bunch of fun games you can do

There's an adage that goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words." What if you were trying to describe the shape of something to a person and you didn't have a pen and paper around?
