Music plays such a huge part within Nintendo games to make them truly remarkable and memorable. To show our appreciation and love of the music, every Friday we shall share a selection of tracks from various Nintendo games, new and old.

Are those sleigh bells ringing? How convenient, because this week we will be sharing some of the best Christmassy/Wintery music from Nintendo’s history.

Check out our festive playlist after the break!

Freezeezy Peak ~ Banjo-Kazooie ~ N64 (1998)

Those of you who know me will know that Banjo-Kazooie is one game that will be forever remembered in my childhood memories so it seems very fitting that we would start of with a track from the game. Though the name of the world may be difficult to spell, Freezeezy Peak is probably one of the most awesome worlds from the game, and this is coming from someone who usually hates ice themed levels. The music is a perfect match, it’s just so jolly and… well… Christmassy! Whether you are sledging against giant Polar Bears, helping Twinklies to light the Christmas Tree or ascending the giant snowman, you’ll always have a joyful time at Freezeezy Peak… just keep an eye out for those mischievous snowmen who are desperate for a snowball fight!

Alina Blue ~ Yoshi’s Story ~ N64 (1998)

Yoshi’s Story is another game that was part of my childhood. Listening to this track can really make a pleasant walk in the Winter snow so much more peaceful and perhaps even a bit fun too… it’s even fun to whistle too! There’s nothing that could make your walk depressing, except maybe those Shy Guys throwing snowballs at you for no good reason… their aim is pretty flawed though so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Hailfire Peaks (Icy Side) ~ Banjo-Tooie ~ N64 (2000)

What’s this? Another track from the Banjo-Kazooie franchise? Hailfire Peaks was definitely a very interesting world… and big! One half of the world was filled with flames, whereas the other with ice… I am pretty sure this was one of the first games that combined both lava and ice themes in one level! This track isn’t as chirpy as the others, it still sounds a bit Christmassy. It has that mysterious frosty feeling to it and makes you want to cover up warm in the cold and watch the sights… there’s been word that there has been a UFO sighting on the Icy Side of Hailfire!

Thanks for the suggestion Flint Cragley!

Snowball Park ~ Super Mario 3D World ~ Nintendo Wii U (2013)

It just wouldn’t be Christmas without Mario, so here’s a track from one of his latest adventures! When I listen to this, it almost reminds me of waking up on Christmas morning in my childhood. Feeling so excited, I would wake my parents up and while we wait to open presents I would just wonder what Santa has brought for me. Unfortunately it rarely snows during Christmas where I live, but I can imagine running out into the snow to do all sorts of things while listening to this track… make snowmen, throw snowballs and even steal the Goomba’s ice skate!

Unfortunately we have to close off another wonderful week of music… but hopefully this weekend’s playlist should keep you entertained for the whole week! Fret not, however, as we will returning next week for more NintyBeats!

Be sure to post any suggestions you may have in the comments below and enjoy your weekend and have a Merry Christmas! :)

I am a huge Nintendo fan, hence why NintyBuzz exists. I especially love all things Zelda and Metroid. NintyBuzz was started by me back in the Summer of 2014, it started out mainly as a hobby, though the site has gradually grown, and I hope it grows for many years to come!
