Music plays such a huge part within Nintendo games to make them truly remarkable and memorable. To show our appreciation and love of the music, every Friday we shall share a selection of tracks from various Nintendo games, new and old.

To celebrate the release of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Wii U, we will be looking back at some of the amazing arrangements featured in previous Smash games!

Listen to our selection after the break!

Please note – Due to the huge music library of the Super Smash Bros. franchise, it was very difficult to chose tracks for this weekend’s selection. We have chosen two from each game [excluding Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Wii U]. If we have overlooked a track, feel free to post it in the comments and we’ll include it in a future article!

Master Hand Battle ~ Super Smash Bros. ~ N64 (1999)

Who doesn’t remember the memorable duel with the almighty Master Hand in the original Smash Bros. Personally this version is the most memorable mainly because it was the first time Master Hand made an appearance. Though other versions did feel more cinematic, this one is so gritty, it just seems more suiting for the final battle in Adventure Mode.

Dreamland ~ Super Smash Bros. ~ N64 (1999)/Kirby Super Star ~ SNES (1996)

Yet another memorable track from the original Smash Bros. This one is actually a remix from the Gourmet Race theme from Kirby Super Star on the SNES. This song is perfect for Smash Bros., it’s fast paced and frantic which really enforces that urge to beat the crap out of your friends… on the game that is [NintyBuzz is not liable for the injury of reader’s friends].

Brinstar ~ Super Smash Bros. Melee ~ Gamecube (2001)/Metroid ~ NES (1986)

This is definitely one of my favourite remixes from the Smash Bros. series, it’s just a really fun song. You get a sense of galactic adventure and exploration, like you do in the Metroid games, only difference is, instead of exploring, you’re duking it out with your fellow fighters. It is also very upbeat, which can easily make you feel good even if you only have one life left! Fun Fact – Samus can not crawl… neither can Metroids!

Temple ~ Super Smash Bros. Melee ~ Gamecube (2001)/Zelda II: Adventure of Link ~ NES (1988)

Another one of my favourite remixes in the Smash series here, can’t decided which is better, this or Brinstar! This beat is very mysterious, just like you were actually exploring a temple… though it can’t be good for the architecture with all that rough housing going on.

Mute City ~ Super Smash Bros. Brawl ~ Nintendo Wii (2008)/F-Zero ~ NES (1990)

Though the game this originally came from is fast-paced and frantic, this remix sounds rather smooth sailing… which I quite enjoy. It still doe have a frantic feel, but it also sounds so smooth… smooth as butter [sorry, couldn’t resist]. I especially enjoy the intro, you get that feeling of calm before the storm

Ashley’s Song ~ Super Smash Bros. Brawl ~ Nintendo Wii (2008)/ WarioWare Touched! ~ Nintendo DS (2004)

This is a rather different songs compared to the rest in this selection… it is kinda a joke song, but still really catchy. Not much else can be said about this song, though I would hate to be her teacher on soup day!

Gerudo Valley ~ Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS (2014)/The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time ~ N64 (1998)

This is just a perfect remix of Gerudo Valley. When listening to this, I can literally imagine myself exploring an middle-eastern like valley. I almost wish they used this in Ocarina of Time 3D. You even feel a bit thirsty when listening to the theme… but you should be fine just as long as you know the Song of Storms.

Stage Select ~ Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Pikmin ~ Gamecube (2001)

We are ending off the weekend with a bang. This beat is a remix of the Map Screen theme from Pikmin. Just imagine yourself as one of the Pikmin creatures, waking up to a new morning and exploring an unexplored area… this is song perfectly suits that situation. It’s up-beat and has that sense of wonderment. All of a sudden, it isn’t such a small world after all!

Unfortunately, it is that time once again to close this weekend’s NintyBeats up, though fret not, as we will return next weekend per usual. As it is the European, Australian and Japanese release of Smash Wii U next weekend, we will continue the musical celebration.

Be sure to post any suggestions you may have in the comments below and have a smashing weekend weekend [get it?]! :)

I am a huge Nintendo fan, hence why NintyBuzz exists. I especially love all things Zelda and Metroid. NintyBuzz was started by me back in the Summer of 2014, it started out mainly as a hobby, though the site has gradually grown, and I hope it grows for many years to come!
